At DFA we have recently had the chance to visit together the Exhibition “The Factory of the Renaissance” (open until May 8) installed at the famous Palladio’s Basilica in Vicenza, a place to which we are very affectionate.
In addition to the beautiful upturn ship hull ceiling, the inside wise light effects shed light on a winged St. Mark’s Lion, which is a traditional symbol of the ancient Serenissima Republic of Venice and is usually represented with a book between its paws.
The story goes that the representation of the lion with an open book indicates a peaceful time for the people and the Republic of Venice, whereas the closed book is rather attributed to war conditions.
In difficult times such as those we are experiencing, we hope that this winged lion standing on an open book can be seen as a good omen for new peaceful times ahead.
Happy Easter from us all.
